This paper describes the results of a wonderful team effort to demonstrate the evolutionary forces that can affect an idea. In this case, we studied the English irregular verbs. The study appeared on the cover of Nature and was named one of Nature's favorite papers of 2008. It has been discussed fairly widely in the press; most recently it was featured in the cover article of New Scientist.
